Regardless of his condition Mathew is a prominent sportsman from Kerala. An internationally recognized arm-wrestler and para powerlifter, who has earned numerous medals throughout his career.
Joby Mathew was born in 1976 in Kerala, India. He has a 60% disability. He is 3 feet 5 inches tall and has stunted legs due to a condition called proximal femoral deficiency.
Mathew has won medals at several international events and has won five gold world arm wrestling championships for India.
Recently, he won a bronze medal at the 2025 Para Powerlifting World Championship and secured a gold medal at the Khelo India Para Games. He has also won medals at the World Arm-wrestling Championship.
He hails from Kottayam where he works at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) as a sports employeeTop of FormBottom of Form and is widely admired for his outstanding achievements despite living with a physical disability.
Though since birth Mathew has faced unbelievable disadvantages, he continues to inspire and motivate others through his dedication, resilience, and unwavering spirit, setting his sights on the 2028 Paralympics in the USA.
