Welcome to Avacayam, Our Disability Livelihood Program
This is where most of our magic happens. Our flagship recycling program started in 2001 with waste temple flower recycling program. This is where the concept of Avacayam was born.
I once asked a young man with disability, who was training with us …. “what do you want out of life?”
After a while, he answered ...
“Everyday, I want to wake up in the morning, eat breakfast and leave for work. In the evenings, when I get back home, I want to relax and drink a cup of tea, then watch a bit of TV before dinner and sleep early to be fresh for the next morning”. He added with smile on his face that he would like to watch a movie in a theatre on Sundays."
In his quiet statement I began to see the path we would henceforth take with the adults training with us. A path that would give them a beginning of “ ordinariness with an ordinary place in adult life”.
I understood that what he really wanted was to be included – with Just an Ordinary Life – nothing special - like everybody else!
And from then till now, this is what we have been striving to do – designing strategies and products that are inclusive, to ensure that the people we work with can earn a place in everyday life – financially and socially!
To achieve this, we start by educating young children in Prabhat, Society for Child Development in a rigorous program of academics, social skills and habits. When 18, students are transferred to the Skill building and Income generation program, where they apprentice with other skilled workers with disability to learn and earn.
The collections presented here is a glimpse of this journey …..

We include all …. people and planet …. to design products that are handcrafted by persons with disability (who form a major part of our inclusive workforce) for customers who care about the future of our planet. After all, the beauty of a product increases when it is made with hope and happiness. Our designs celebrate life!
But, that is not all! Our processes, materials and creatively recycled products actually make the world a better place as we walk with determination towards the goal of Carbon neutrality. “By- products” are our raw material!
As soon as the By- Products, are identified or sourced, the deconstruction process begins. Each element is sanitized, so what reaches our people, whether our artisans or our customers, is as good as new.
We continuously reach out to people with disability from other regions to involve them in this quest for inclusivity. We work towards creating a cadre of handcrafting crusaders with our unique workforce. We advance, step by step, into a better and more sustainable future with our artisans.
